Ohio's New Accountability System

This month, the state of Ohio will release the new school report card, which will give insight into how well schools are performing. It is designed to give parents more information about their students as well as provide data for individual schools to make informed instructional decisions. The state is no longer using ratings such as "Excellent with Distinction." Instead, schools will be given specific letter grades (A-F) on various performance measures, including the following: achievement, performance Index, 4-year graduation rate, 5-year graduation rate, and gap closure. Attendance percentages do not receive a specific grade, but still may affect the gap closing grade.  The best measure of a school's success is the success of its students, and the new report card takes a more comprehensive look at all of the elements that make up a great school.
