A New WNHS Tradition
I am starting a new tradition of blogging from the Principal's Office. The purpose of the blog is to keep our educational community informed about Warrior News as well as trends in education. You have the option to post comments and our send questions to me if you are unclear about anything I write.
Update from ODE - New Accountability System (OGT is being phased out)
All parents and students need to be aware of information released by the Ohio Department of Education yesterday on the new accountability system Ohio will begin using with the 2014-2015 school year. The new system will include a nationally standardized college readiness test required for all high school sophomores and end of course/year exams in the following courses: English I, II, and III; Algebra I, Geomentry, Algebra II; Biology, Physical Science; American History and American Government. Together these assessments will replace the Ohio Graduation Test. Michael L. Sawyers, ODE's acting Superintendent of Public Instruction, said, "this is a major step forward in our reform efforts to ensure all Ohio students have the knowledge and skills necessary to leave school remediation free and ready for their post-secondary experience in higher education or workforce training."
It is unclear what the college readiness test will be but I do know different companies like the College Board (SAT) and ACT are being asked to put bids in to be the provider of these exams and I also know that these exams will be free of charge to all Ohio Schools. Finally, the end of course/year exams are expected to be a part of the student's grade in each of the aforementioned courses. As soon as more information becomes available, I will update you.
Winter Sports/Activities Update:
Congratulations to all of the members of the cast and crew and their director on their wonderful fall play, "Little Women". I was so proud of each and every one of them and can't wait to see the musical in March, "Peter Pan". It is sure to be a phenomenal production and is something the entire family can attend.
The Boys Basketball Team showcased their skills on November 19, 2012, with an exciting win over Gahanna Lincoln High School on the Otterbien University Campus in a foundation game. It is clear that this will be a wonderful season so keep coming out to support the Warriors. The other winter teams will need your support as well. Good luck to all of the Girls Basketball Teams, Bowling Teams, Swimming Teams, and our Wrestling Team. I know they will all make us proud throughout their season which all begin in the next couple of weeks.
On Friday, November 30, 2012 we are holding our 6th annual Warrior Way Leadership Summit. The students selected were told about their involvement last week and were excited about the prospect of continuing our work on making sure we have the best possible learning environment where everyone truly lives by and models the Warrior Way in all they do.
On Friday, December 7, 2012 we will conclude the Caring and Sharing Program with an assembly to reveal how much money our school has raised for this important charity. Our campaign started on Monday, November 19, 2012 and we will collect money until the end of advisory on December 7th. Thank you for all of your support of this important work.
