Music Boosters

 

WNHS Music Boosters provides financial, volunteer and other support to the instrumental and choral music education program for the students at Westerville North High School. The boosters assist the WNHS music education program in the acquisition and provision of instruments, music, equipment, materials, supplies, teaching,services, uniforms, travel and other support services for the students and directors of the departments.

Band

Jazz Groups

 

Jazz Ensemble

This course is open to anyone who plays Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Guitar, Piano, Bass and Percussion. Brass and woodwind players who wish to learn a double are welcome. No prior Jazz experience is necessary. No audition is required. There may be a limit on the number of participants in the rhythm section. If necessary, the rhythm section will audition.

This is not an entry level performance class. Playing experience on an instrument is required.

Jazz Orchestra

This is the top level Jazz group. An audition is required. Limits will be placed on membership for each section.

Membership in either Jazz group REQUIRES membership in one of the concert bands. This is district policy. Piano, bass and guitar are exempt, but they must be able to read music and be proficient on their instrument.

Dress for Jazz Groups

Those not in a concert band should wear all black.

Men: Black pants, black shoes/socks, white button down shirt, tie.
Women: Black dress. Must go past the knees. Black shoes.

 

Marching Band

 

Marching Band

This ensemble meets after school, and students receive a .5 credit. The band attends all football games, marches in parades, attends several contests, and plays at pep assemblies. More information regarding schedules, fees and calendars will be forthcoming. This group is open to anyone who plays an instrument. Membership in Marching Band REQUIRES membership in one of the concert bands. This is district policy. Membership in the marching band requires strenuous physical exercise and the ability to play the difficult literature encountered in the activity.

  • Sam Kennedy and Jennifer Ramsey work with our percussion section.

Symphonic Band

 

Symphonic Band

All grades are welcome. No audition is required. This is not a beginning level class,so prior playing experience on an instrument is necessary.

  • 1.0) credit towards your “arts credit”
  • full year class
  • perform several concerts
  • will attend large group contest
  • may attend solo and ensemble

Dress for Symphonic Band

Men: Black pants, black shoes/socks, white button down shirt, tie.
Women: Black dress. Must go past the knees. Black shoes.

If a woman chooses not to wear a dress, they may match the outfit for the men, but must have a button down shirt.

Wind Ensemble

 

Wind Ensemble

This is for the most advanced musicians, typically Juniors and Seniors. An audition is required. Limits will be placed on membership for each section.

  • may attend solo and ensemble

Dress for Wind Ensemble

Men: Black tuxedo**, black shoes/socks, white shirt (preferably a tux shirt), black bow tie.

Women: Black dress. Must go past the knees. Black shoes. If a woman chooses not to wear a dress, she may wear all black. Taste is the key.

** If you are in need of a tux the store that has given students a good deal in the past is Classic Tuxedo, 5236 Cleveland Ave. Please ask for Aaron Roberts 614 – 523-1414. There are two options: (These are 2009 prices)

  • Micro fiber tux including pants, coat, cummerbund, tie, shirt and alterations for $199.
  • Wool tux including pants, coat, cummerbund, tie,shirt and alterations for $289. If there are any financial concerns, please ask them to let Mr. Vilanova know as soon as possible.

Choir

Notables

The most active and visible of the vocal music groups, Notables performs on a regular basis throughout the community and at festivals and concerts. The music covers a wide variety of styles from pop to Broadway, and jazz. These students are selected by a rigorous audition process. Students are responsible for performance attire.

Men’s Chorus

This ensemble is especially designed for the needs of new and beginner students.  Various styles of choral and solo literature are studied. No audition is needed. All 9th graders men are placed into this group.

Symphonic Groups

Westerville North Symphonic Mixed Choir



Symphonic Mixed

Symphonic Mixed is open to 10-12 grade students by audition only. This choir is for those wishing to sing in a large select mixed choir. Emphasis will be placed on developing vocal skills to perform quality choral literature. Students will gain basic vocal, sight-singing and theory skills as they relate to choral singing.

Westerville North Women's Symphonic ChoirSymphonic Women’s

This course is for those wishing to sing in a large, select women’s choir. Emphasis will be on developing vocal skills to perform and on understanding and appreciating all styles of music. Students will gain basic vocal, sight-singing and theory skills as they relate to choral singing. This is an audition based group for 10-12th grade women.

Meetings

All meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm in the Choir Room.
