Westerville North Blogs - Academic Boosters

On Tuesday, March 15, Westerville Parent Council will be sponsoring "Assessment Literacy Night for Parents".  This informational meeting will be held at Westerville Central High School from 6:30-8:00 and will give parents an opportunity to learn about the standardized tests/state assessments that are being administered and what exactly is being measured, as well as how to better interpret the reports that are being sent home for our children--from Kindergarten through Senior Year.

On Thursday, March 10, Westerville North is hosting "Getting Ahead of the Game" at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium--an informational event for our Juniors (and even Sophomores!) that will provide much guidance on the sometimes complicated process of navigating the whole process of exploring college options, including testing, application, and what to expect when visiting prospective colleges. Hope to see you there!

A HUGE shout out to all of the volunteers who helped to make Wednesday's Teacher Appreciation event a smashing success!  The staff raved over the selection provided and, as always, were so appreciative of the effort.  An extra big "THANK YOU" to Lauren Hoffman (Hospitality coordinator) and Janet Steele ( Membership) for giving it their all in both the supper and staff membership drive---you all ROCK!!

Academic Boosters traditionally sponsor a Teacher Appreciation "Soup-er Bowl" event during Parent/Teacher conferences--just a small token of our appreciation of the hard work, long hours, and dedication that our staff puts forth...

The deadline for the "WPC/Roush Honda GEM" nominations is coming up very soon--2/5 to be exact!  Don't miss out on the opportunity to recognize that very special adult volunteer, staff member, or community member who has gone the "extra mile" to enrich the lives of our students!  While students may not receive the award, they are highly encouraged to particpate in the nomination process.

The Community Scholarship Application deadline is quickly approaching!  All scholarship applications are due by JANUARY 15 by 3:00 p.m.  You would be amazed at how much money is available through our community--don't miss out on this opportunity!  Academic Boosters gave out $4500 in scholarships last year alone!  Visit www.wcsoh.org and click on the Community Scholarship Application box to access information and download forms.  Don't hesitate to contact your counselor if you have questi

It's that time once again to nominate that "special someone" for the WPC/Roush Honda GEM Award--an adult volunteer or staff member who has gone "the extra mile" to enrich the lives of our students!  We all know someone who qualifies for this honor! Visit http://westervilleparentcouncil.com/gem-awards-2/ to download the nomination form.  Nominations are due on February 5, with recipients being announced in mid-March.  Forms can either be turned in to the Front Office or mailed/hand-deliv

Happy New Year!  Hopefully you all had a great Winter Break filled with fun, family and friends, and relaxation!

This Wednesday (1/6) we will be holding the first General Meeting of Academic Boosters and are thrilled to host Superintendent John Kellogg as our special guest!  He will be holding a one-hour "Q & A" session with our organization--this is terrific opportunity to get to know him in a "small-group" setting and ask questions specific to both Westerville North and the district.

Don't forget--on December 16, Westerville North will be hosting an informational meeting for all three high schools' Seniors and their parents to go over the Community Scholarship and FAFSA application process.  One would be amazed at the amount of scholarship money available to our students!  There is a lot of information to cover--guidance counselors will be available to answer questions as well.  The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. in North's auditorium.

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. John Kellogg, the district superintendent, will be joining us on January 6, 2016!  The meeting will be held in the high school's Front Office at 6:00 p.m.  We are all very excited that we were able to reschedule, including Dr. Kellogg, and look forward to seeing everybody for an informative "Q and A" in a smaller-group setting!  It would be a great opportunity to make some new friends and see some new faces!

Unfortunately, our district superintendent has a recent scheduling conflict and WILL NOT be able to meet with our organization on 12/2 as earlier planned.  We are working to reschedule the opportunity and I will let you all know just as soon as this date has been set.  I know that we ALL were looking forward to the event, including Dr. Kellogg!  Sincerest of apologies all around and we hope that you will be able to join us at the yet-to-be determined date!

We are happy to celebrate the academic success of 185 Freshmen who earned the "Freshman First Quarter Merit Award"!  In order to qualify, the student must have earned a GPA of 3.3 or above during their first quarter at Westerville North.  The advisory teachers now have the packets containing these talented students' certificates, as well as some other information, and they should be proudly distributed over the next few days.

Just a reminder...we will have our November meeting this coming Wednesday, 11/4, in the Front Office conference room at 6:00 p.m.  Hope to see you all there!

Thanks to the many parent and student volunteers, this past Tuesday night's Academic Awards Banquet was a smashing success.  We had a record-setting crowd of well over 350 people coming together to celebrate the Academic Success of 257 honored students in a variety of categories!  An "extra-special" thanks to Lauren Hoffman, our Banquet Chairperson, who worked so hard to make the evening a hit!  Well done Warriors!!

We have decided to extend the RSVP deadline for this year's "Academic Awards Banquet" to FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9!!  In order to accommodate all guests, we cannot accept late or "walk-in" rervations so take advantage of this extension and join us as we celebrate!  Either turn in your forms to the Front Office of the high school or mail to the PO Box ( PO Box 1873, Westerville OH 43086-1873).  Please
