Westerville North Music Boosters - Welcome
Hello and Welcome to the Westerville North Music Department Blog.
Westerville North has a strong tradition of excellence. All students are welcome in the music department. Students get to put into practice many important skills like teamwork, problem solving skills and creativity. Our students become part of something bigger than the individual where they contribute to make the whole uniquely their own. Our directors, Laura Fahning, Linda Nolan, John Vermeulen and Jordi Vilanova are committed to the Music Department motto...Be Your Best!
The Marching Band had another successful season this fall. They performed at every football game supporting our team. In competition, they placed first in their class at every contest and won many caption awards. At the Mid-States Band Association Championships, they were once again finalists for the fifth year in a row! In addition, they hosted the 2nd Annual Westerville North Invitational bringing in a dozen bands from all over Ohio.
Our marvelous choirs have been hard at work this year. The Concert Choir and Symphonic Mixed Choir rehearse daily in class, and the Notables show choir has been rehearsing as a pull out from Symphonic Mixed as well as after school. They will show off their excellent talents this week in their first concerts being held at Westerville CentralHigh School at 7:30. The Concert Choir and Notables will perform Tuesday, December 4 , and the Symphonic Mixed Choir and Notables will perform Wednesday, December 5.
Our two concert bands, the Wind Ensemble and the Symphonic Band, have already had a Fall Concert performing works representing music spanning 4 centuries. They are currently working on chamber music for the PRISM Concert in February and music for the Wind Ensemble’s contest performance in March.
The Orchestra has also performed a very successful Fall Concert. They are currently working on music to perform this week at the Caring and Sharing Assembly. They are also working on Chamber music for the PRISM Concert on February 14 as well as contest on February 23.
Westerville North has a long tradition of excellent jazz bands. Even though Jazz Band is no longer a class, we have started this year as pull out from concert bands. Now that Marching Band has completed its season, the Jazz Orchestra is rehearsing after school as often as possible. They will have their first performance at the Caring and Sharing Assembly this week as well as a jazz only concert in the band room on Tuesday, December 11.
We are excited that we occasionally are able to do some things as an entire department. We are once again going to be hosting the Ohio Music Education Association Solo and Ensemble Festival on Saturday, February 16. Over 1200 chamber music acts from high schools all around central Ohio will perform throughout the day all through our building. This is a great opportunity for all of our music department to collaborate on an important project.
